<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "helvetica neue" , "verdana" , "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;">God is so good! National Collection Week for Operation Christmas Child is over for another year. I don't know yet how the numbers are nationally or even state wide but I do know the numbers for the Mid-Texas area. God allowed us to do "immeasurably more" this year for the children around the world who will receive shoeboxes in 2016. Last year, 2015, we collected 13,670 shoeboxes. We set our goal at 12% higher, praying for immeasurably more with a goal for 2015 at 15,310 shoeboxes. By the time they were all in we had indeed done immeasurably more! Our final total collected by the Mid-Texas area was 15,993!*** 683 boxes over our goal. Praise God! He is the one who allowed this to happen. </span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "helvetica neue" , "verdana" , "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "helvetica neue" , "verdana" , "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;">We are so very thankful to all the churches, groups and individuals who collected shoeboxes this year. We could not have done it without you! We serve 5 1/2 counties, Robertson, Milam, Falls, Bell, 1/2 of Coryell, and Lampasas. We have relay centers in Bremond, Rosebud, Killeen, Copperas Cove and Lometa. They did a great job gathering in the shoe boxes. Thank you Roianne Alston, Zorena Baker & Nettie Hyde, Joyce Steiner, Barbara Perin and Margaret Williams. We also have our collection center in Temple. So many great men and women helped this year that it would be hard to name them all. God knows who you are!</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "helvetica neue" , "verdana" , "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "helvetica neue" , "verdana" , "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;">We had a busy start to the week last Monday when we got over 2000 shoeboxes on the first day. Each day was very busy, except for Friday when we had to check to make sure the door was unlocked.lol We were busy the last Monday when we had the relay centers bring their boxes to us and we had lots of people making sure they got their boxes in on time. We were accepting boxes until after 5 even though closing time was 5. As long as the boxes were coming, we were there!</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "helvetica neue" , "verdana" , "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "helvetica neue" , "verdana" , "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;">Here are some pictures that were taken throughout the week. At one point we ran out of cartons and our Pat Rutland went "dumpster diving" to get cartons for us to use! </span><br />

It's National Collection Week for Operation Christmas Child. In 2015 it runs from Nov. 16 to Nov. 23. Be sure to get your shoeboxes turned in to a collection center or relay center near you! Hundreds of thousands of children don't know why we have Christmas and don't received any gifts. Many of these children have never received any kind of a gift. Through <a href="http://www.samaritanspurse.org/" target="_blank">Operation Christmas Child</a>, children in over 130 countries and territories have the opportunity to receive a gift and to learn about the saving love of Jesus Christ. If you haven't packed a shoebox yet, it's not too late! You can go<a href="http://www.samaritanspurse.org/" target="_blank"> online</a> to find a relay center near you or to pack a shoebox online.<br />

National Collection Week is just around the corner, Nov. 16 -23 for 2015. There is not much time left for filling your shoe boxes, especially if you are crafty and like to make things for it. Here is a simple sewing kit that you can make for 10-14 girls. The basic kit costs less than 50 cents to make and fill. I looked at lot of sewing kits online and on Pintrest and saw a lot of really cute ones, but many of them took more time or sewing skills than I have so I came up with my own. I might try something a little more involved next year when I have more time. With just two weeks left, I needed something quick and easy.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQTpueVzj3vMUYhIQSsommm4i35U8iHUOZQvhRW_47tYwgn-zUz7OXOULiNSl2a5ZwLB9e1HDCVu9fLBVVB-SiorA6wVkc33aGskrf8ZjCdHR8WOFR4C8Sbfn12Djv5716HKavcbiFb91S/s1600/IMG_20151104_153651848.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQTpueVzj3vMUYhIQSsommm4i35U8iHUOZQvhRW_47tYwgn-zUz7OXOULiNSl2a5ZwLB9e1HDCVu9fLBVVB-SiorA6wVkc33aGskrf8ZjCdHR8WOFR4C8Sbfn12Djv5716HKavcbiFb91S/s320/IMG_20151104_153651848.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDdWBkwxoOBVPXssv7kVvlvmbnf-H9oqpHf6OZK7SstMwl7XW-KGOBpniHEC8D1GyF79BRj8LNXbBNpxbXgBlg4P_wT776xSXUi266VPNCM2cIk3POSXUIWYqitTEdtAlDyMElj2oQS34y/s1600/IMG_20151104_153543654.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDdWBkwxoOBVPXssv7kVvlvmbnf-H9oqpHf6OZK7SstMwl7XW-KGOBpniHEC8D1GyF79BRj8LNXbBNpxbXgBlg4P_wT776xSXUi266VPNCM2cIk3POSXUIWYqitTEdtAlDyMElj2oQS34y/s320/IMG_20151104_153543654.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Materials needed for each kit:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1/2 piece of 9 x 12" felt</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
scrap fleece, fabric or batting</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
6-8 buttons</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
mini spool of thread</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
10 straight pins</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2 needles</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2-3 safety pins </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I bought enough to make 60 kits (which I won't have finished by collection week, so that will give me a head start on next year). The container of straight pins held 360 pins, 24 spools of thread, and so on. It averages out to be 48 1/2 cents per kit. I got my items and prices at Wal Mart but you can find these things in many stores. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also ordered tape measures from Oriental Trading at 12 for $4.99. That would be 42 cents each. It takes 5-7 days to get an order from Oriental Trading unless you expedite shipping but then that would add to the cost. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I added pointed scissors to my kit also. I got them at Dollar Tree for 2/$1. That brings the cost of my entire kit up to about $1.50. You could go with the basic kit for less than 50 cents. </div>
<br />
I have seen people put their kit items in all sorts of things. Annie's has a really cool kit to make for $4 or $5 but that requires more time. Some people put them in Altoids tins which is cool also. I don't use Altoids & I haven't been able to get people to respond to saving them for me! Some people even just put them in a plastic bag but I don't think that would last very long.<br />
<br />
<u>Instructions for making my kit: </u><br />
<u><br /></u>
1. Fold the felt in half and cut so that you have 2 9 x 6" pieces. Fold one of these in half to have a 3 x 9" piece. Sew a 1/4" seam down the side and across one end.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2. Turn the felt so that the seam is on the inside. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. Next you will want to stuff a small amount of batting, left over fleece or other fabric into the closed end. Be sure it is no more than 1/2 filled. This will make a small pin cushion. I used fleece in mine because I had made several fleece blankets and had scrap pieces. Fleece works well because it is so soft.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4. Fold the felt in half and then sew a seam down the middle. This leaves the pin cushion end closed.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
5. You will want to decorate the front of the kit next. I hot glued a silk flower and a button to the front of mine because I already had lots of those in my craft room. I did not figure the cost of decoration into the cost of the kit.<br />
I slid a piece of card stock into the pocket so that the glue won't stick the sides together.<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnhc8y4TTpTL6uo5ynJU3j6BXa5POi1zMkJp_IhyphenhyphenbOKm7jVnJTWmn43v-Q-iDpAG3APXaPejOQqmGfM6HJPHtSXGoambFupIPYWr8-p-yObkcGxndCiegIgCjlsG5XGQph9fsjc1t2gh7Q/s1600/IMG_20151104_153303754.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnhc8y4TTpTL6uo5ynJU3j6BXa5POi1zMkJp_IhyphenhyphenbOKm7jVnJTWmn43v-Q-iDpAG3APXaPejOQqmGfM6HJPHtSXGoambFupIPYWr8-p-yObkcGxndCiegIgCjlsG5XGQph9fsjc1t2gh7Q/s320/IMG_20151104_153303754.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
The way we made it we have a pocket on one end.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTH9Lp_BMZmnbkn-sQWuru08T9_oqyCj8lfxbqWI2AkRkR3BOP-ZI6OhoxTgkf8SzRcd25XhiQ3tZG3Vc1sD1JKvUFexACUrqntFvBBxNe6nNhabVa8q7XMhouXL5KopV7yDJEvE2PFbFy/s1600/IMG_20151104_153049820.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTH9Lp_BMZmnbkn-sQWuru08T9_oqyCj8lfxbqWI2AkRkR3BOP-ZI6OhoxTgkf8SzRcd25XhiQ3tZG3Vc1sD1JKvUFexACUrqntFvBBxNe6nNhabVa8q7XMhouXL5KopV7yDJEvE2PFbFy/s320/IMG_20151104_153049820.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Fill this pocket with thread, buttons, and anything else that you have to include in your sewing kits. The scissors that I have will not fit in the pocket but the tape measure does.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiK3uxLM8tsh3sZw2P5rSlrLa2MobGeWYSuy7fKEdRjsOcxLucE0Ujz7k9k1RP6nuDo8iFlRjUjcnoVEf8YRy4pDKlMOF87-7mVNV2bVzRXGpbA0dIskHp2fNE9JIKFQZhwdQY03Vll6LXv/s1600/IMG_20151104_153610557.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiK3uxLM8tsh3sZw2P5rSlrLa2MobGeWYSuy7fKEdRjsOcxLucE0Ujz7k9k1RP6nuDo8iFlRjUjcnoVEf8YRy4pDKlMOF87-7mVNV2bVzRXGpbA0dIskHp2fNE9JIKFQZhwdQY03Vll6LXv/s320/IMG_20151104_153610557.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
7. There are several ways to close the pocket. You could put velcro on the inside to close it. You could sew on a button and clasp (hair bands make good clasps) or you could just do it simple by adding a large safety pin to the end.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhe5spA_lUQ9XBV6ndSdkW8r3M4K2fw2vUa0nT8L0kE3aOeh637ASzwQ1TGDybAEsDqzjcYTT_yLqBizjDANW_jkevf81Rw86gIWsD3VaZggqTCfUngmlxInKUPz9er5PQnp509cREpP4AW/s1600/IMG_20151104_153634937.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhe5spA_lUQ9XBV6ndSdkW8r3M4K2fw2vUa0nT8L0kE3aOeh637ASzwQ1TGDybAEsDqzjcYTT_yLqBizjDANW_jkevf81Rw86gIWsD3VaZggqTCfUngmlxInKUPz9er5PQnp509cREpP4AW/s320/IMG_20151104_153634937.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
8. If you are adding scissors, an easy way is to cut a piece of 1/4" ribbon about 16" long. Wrap it around the middle of the kit and tie on the outside. Slip one end of the ribbon through a finger hole of the scissors and tie a bow to hold the scissors in place. I find 1/4" ribbon at Wal Mart on spools of 10 yards for less than a dollar.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRfLUIy_WKtG3jeK5NV4YsOv3f8jQUqavyULYkep2hAKdBOEOZMDa4FwSTwa-cmzZaHg1ODG0lcgxbshrv6_Jf1bbNXsdP4tMlfEc6S7Yt2MrcI-W4oQxNiH4F3p4a2a8IoGspY8TECHf5/s1600/IMG_20151105_110613215.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRfLUIy_WKtG3jeK5NV4YsOv3f8jQUqavyULYkep2hAKdBOEOZMDa4FwSTwa-cmzZaHg1ODG0lcgxbshrv6_Jf1bbNXsdP4tMlfEc6S7Yt2MrcI-W4oQxNiH4F3p4a2a8IoGspY8TECHf5/s320/IMG_20151105_110613215.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This is very simple to make but I think that it could be a gift an older girl could treasure. Any way have fun packing your shoe boxes. Remember, think more! More shoe boxes equals more gospel opportunities.<br />

Our church has a large foyer with floor to ceiling windows. Every year before National Collection Week for Operation Christmas Child, we build two Christmas trees out of shoe boxes. We put an OCC brochure in each one and then our members can take the shoe boxes they want to fill. It is fairly easy to re-make the tree as the boxes disappear, until a large portion of them are gone. We also put a tree in our Welcome Center, as many people enter the church there. This helps us to promote Operation Christmas Child in a visual way and makes it easy for our people to pick up their empty boxes.<br />

I don't know where we originally got this diagram/instructions to build the trees but I'm passing it on to you. It takes 141 boxes to build each tree. We are a mid-sized church and we collect over 2000 filled shoeboxes each year for OCC. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Here are the directions that we use each year. Hope it helps you.</div>

I joined Annie's monthly club for card making & have gotten my first kit. I made some of the things as directed but then, I decided to use up some of the other things I have sitting around my craft room with the club kit. Here is one that I did.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpty7BNV0C_jaqZ47c2j5afU3t_GdgqFuhL1x5o2Cb-EAo6ddmJo3kLBFRJttnmaZRGYvyCJBavm2SvNPydZ8m7Ib8EhgBwbcoVpKHFKOoC1ktjROUNj_2YDIJdahY3RKym9Yw4LcHXeFG/s1600/flower+pot.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpty7BNV0C_jaqZ47c2j5afU3t_GdgqFuhL1x5o2Cb-EAo6ddmJo3kLBFRJttnmaZRGYvyCJBavm2SvNPydZ8m7Ib8EhgBwbcoVpKHFKOoC1ktjROUNj_2YDIJdahY3RKym9Yw4LcHXeFG/s320/flower+pot.png" width="246" /></a></div>
Materials needed:<br />
Flower pot die cut, papers & brads from Annie's Oct. club kit<br />
Silk flowers from any store<br />
Birthday greeting stamp<br />
5 petal punch-SU!<br />
Wild Wasabi card stock 4 1/4 x 5 1/2"<br />
Tangerine Tango ink pad<br />
<br />
The Annie's kit had the flower pot shaped card that folded over. I cut it in half and used it on double the cards. The flowers are a simple matter of layering paper and silk flowers and placing a brad through the middle. Some of these were punch outs from the kit and some were cut from left over paper in the kit and my SU punches.<br />
A really simple card to make and a great way to use up some of your extras.</div>

In many countries in the world, they put great value on paper because they do not have as much of it available as we do here in the US, especially in the poorer families. Since I'm a scrapbooker and card maker, I usually have far more scrap paper than I ever use. From time to time, I will take handfuls out of my stash and give it to my grandchildren and great grandchildren to play with. I decided that this might be a great thing to go in some of my shoeboxes so I made felt pouches to put the paper in.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJW22UEf6e5ovgczk1LBuIIpIgr47GziHcQPJ6rM2pbo6RNRw8EkUz4FhYp6tUr6Q_wJDTvbqgvVkDtvkR2adjvD4MDHEdRHl8qNxIH4rzkn9d_TQUBVsZBhYU-TTiTB4FYicVOarnBFBM/s1600/IMG_20151001_125435922.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJW22UEf6e5ovgczk1LBuIIpIgr47GziHcQPJ6rM2pbo6RNRw8EkUz4FhYp6tUr6Q_wJDTvbqgvVkDtvkR2adjvD4MDHEdRHl8qNxIH4rzkn9d_TQUBVsZBhYU-TTiTB4FYicVOarnBFBM/s320/IMG_20151001_125435922.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
When you buy felt by the piece, it is usually about 9 x 12". You can make to pouches with each piece.<br />
Cut a piece of felt in half lengthwise so that it now measures 4 1/2 x 12."<br />
Fold one end up 4" and sew a narrow seam on each side.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNrZFWPRjBn_awk_JSj-KtVOU24tn-EqYf_DaQsKpwEcTO9KnG5hxZZAsI3irYL_1uV6yrLU7y3gQViJSpuICz0XhGG7u8A3ROP15yMUjVxCbfQgH58dZOHg-VaDy6SrumyhMGdTVr4IO2/s1600/IMG_20151001_125502131.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNrZFWPRjBn_awk_JSj-KtVOU24tn-EqYf_DaQsKpwEcTO9KnG5hxZZAsI3irYL_1uV6yrLU7y3gQViJSpuICz0XhGG7u8A3ROP15yMUjVxCbfQgH58dZOHg-VaDy6SrumyhMGdTVr4IO2/s320/IMG_20151001_125502131.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The top will fold down to about 3 1/2."</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Using scrap pieces of felt, cut out some shapes, such as hearts and stars. I cut them on my Big Shot with my Sizzix dies but if you don't have this, you can use any pattern to cut shapes. With the top open, sew shapes on to the outside top.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHElVjjj1MxBz_HmYHBr-65FwKTdAPRXAn_rvZWuQ8oQ8jn4sVIFPVy8-wOHulTS2XSep6cLDc2duVypgsDfg3QXyQ6eSOwOJftqR0WxkpSeGQ6xjQtQLQFYeoJT1uw3RQ3qyehyphenhyphenaflZ4J/s1600/IMG_20151001_125452441.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHElVjjj1MxBz_HmYHBr-65FwKTdAPRXAn_rvZWuQ8oQ8jn4sVIFPVy8-wOHulTS2XSep6cLDc2duVypgsDfg3QXyQ6eSOwOJftqR0WxkpSeGQ6xjQtQLQFYeoJT1uw3RQ3qyehyphenhyphenaflZ4J/s320/IMG_20151001_125452441.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
You can also use silk flowers, ribbons, beads, etc to decorate the top flap of the pouch.<br />
Now go through your scrap pile and cut squares or rectangles out of the larger pieces. I cut most of the pieces to be 3 1/2 x 4" so that they will fit easily into the pouch.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQwoi3B1nhHJc8RdCHnQwZVxiu25yASKGMicoyNriwm-rxwML28VUFgAkcZwB_-FM6F7_Ty1VRDsilWygyteruA2IJtbdiMLQeBBrd-YCjtELYtU1ZnvSdT5nwzqw8XApHgaR56iFlSuiV/s1600/IMG_20151001_125538216.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQwoi3B1nhHJc8RdCHnQwZVxiu25yASKGMicoyNriwm-rxwML28VUFgAkcZwB_-FM6F7_Ty1VRDsilWygyteruA2IJtbdiMLQeBBrd-YCjtELYtU1ZnvSdT5nwzqw8XApHgaR56iFlSuiV/s320/IMG_20151001_125538216.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Since I use my leftover scrapbook papers, they are often a mix of colors and patterns. The back side of the paper can vary.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitBlJYOW6bbeozDHDuDxz81qExmexWXuHiAxvf9qtImsEFeisimLj7qz-EbNLElK9jUxk6muTo52S23noctgjTmy45RGL9UjJ3zsw1DzeP8b3fuONkbu-5O460Jy1x84C5RNjKAWSf1mZa/s1600/IMG_20151001_125552790.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitBlJYOW6bbeozDHDuDxz81qExmexWXuHiAxvf9qtImsEFeisimLj7qz-EbNLElK9jUxk6muTo52S23noctgjTmy45RGL9UjJ3zsw1DzeP8b3fuONkbu-5O460Jy1x84C5RNjKAWSf1mZa/s320/IMG_20151001_125552790.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's not unusual for the back side to be blank. Sometimes it will have writing about the paper on it. Some scrapbook papers are double sided and will have colors and patterns on each side. I think that any of this scrap paper will be great. The children can use the paper in whatever way they want. They can use the blank sides to write on or be creative and make things out of the colored, patterned sides. I think this will just be a fun item to go in the middle and older kids boxes. When the paper is gone, then they can use the pouch to put crayons or other items in. </div>

Here's an easy and cute caterpillar that you can make to go in shoeboxes. Boys and girls will like this one!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii6WpeZpt23VTC2B1I_zWvlsHKN-Sg5ZdTGNfbXev_Z5FAyF2T8sUlgPidd-FZL2UIYycGKRnD-MyIUfE3-4HPcNd-Ylw8BxMnTG8gpPOTTrZsYaLG89NgfvD7wIg2HbZon40nhhMnBqe5/s1600/IMG_20150914_143757918.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii6WpeZpt23VTC2B1I_zWvlsHKN-Sg5ZdTGNfbXev_Z5FAyF2T8sUlgPidd-FZL2UIYycGKRnD-MyIUfE3-4HPcNd-Ylw8BxMnTG8gpPOTTrZsYaLG89NgfvD7wIg2HbZon40nhhMnBqe5/s320/IMG_20150914_143757918.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I actually saw these on a Pinterest post but they didn't have the antenna or the eyes. I think they are much cuter with them.<br />
<br />
Materials needed:<br />
Hot glue gun & glue<br />
tweezers<br />
Various colored pom poms<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Chenille stems, brown or green<br />
Wooden clothes pins<br />
Wiggly eyes, tiny<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgk7eiEIBQ4VSv46c9jqNcsFbmnH6rVkzJNxQt3PmcgOeQlQ-36RF1GktqtAIuJRTnL0eu16I3dsJIpJTD1BxOqNk6ClT4rqSt2K5Ez32fCJhLZuJG4PRWl3ICCiS2bO3LDIzFmFhtdPpI3/s1600/IMG_20150921_134058496.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgk7eiEIBQ4VSv46c9jqNcsFbmnH6rVkzJNxQt3PmcgOeQlQ-36RF1GktqtAIuJRTnL0eu16I3dsJIpJTD1BxOqNk6ClT4rqSt2K5Ez32fCJhLZuJG4PRWl3ICCiS2bO3LDIzFmFhtdPpI3/s320/IMG_20150921_134058496.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
1. Start with a clothes pin and a 3" chenille stem. Bend the stem in half in a v shape. Place a glob of glue on the end of the clothes pin and place the point of the V into the glue.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimQkB6QPhMHtMlG9NS7VsJKBmV2TIbPVQTe5LsVNKwjGoxMdhEZonXlUm1gkwrd39NtaU4UmWYFjhywPik7cmnbIVjNYXIKKno3ALorzobbYXp7pVcIqjOdylSywgkEEjoMPD6Md7KHs6z/s1600/IMG_20150921_134143440.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimQkB6QPhMHtMlG9NS7VsJKBmV2TIbPVQTe5LsVNKwjGoxMdhEZonXlUm1gkwrd39NtaU4UmWYFjhywPik7cmnbIVjNYXIKKno3ALorzobbYXp7pVcIqjOdylSywgkEEjoMPD6Md7KHs6z/s320/IMG_20150921_134143440.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
2. Put another glob of glue over the fold of the stem. Place a pom pom the color of your choice in the center of the glued stem.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjczN2P0z53YBD1HmG5DUL3UbhQO80wKN6dbC6kDcgkzkrbxcgnw72O3eO6m3iPl17t-Sdvscm7s3OLr801n5-t8Q06n5jsrXZXlpYCixW2IuOqzRU4q9W08pdauPlEXKKfvZiyQJ5fgQr1/s1600/IMG_20150921_134224981.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjczN2P0z53YBD1HmG5DUL3UbhQO80wKN6dbC6kDcgkzkrbxcgnw72O3eO6m3iPl17t-Sdvscm7s3OLr801n5-t8Q06n5jsrXZXlpYCixW2IuOqzRU4q9W08pdauPlEXKKfvZiyQJ5fgQr1/s320/IMG_20150921_134224981.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
3. Place a strip of glue down the center of the remainder of the clothes pin. Add 3 more pom poms of any color on top of the glue.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHo8KORf_OqCKSqHmUUVak8E5sZORR7NCFMJMXoZKuYg2gTX8S9MCWczM7fRkiX3Ogunncy9n2xYYseUC6IPoHNXboRaDKNVqInP09Fl7tCtLDB-bc-tj_PN1Me1VwW47YvvYrtMrOT-IJ/s1600/IMG_20150921_134415904.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHo8KORf_OqCKSqHmUUVak8E5sZORR7NCFMJMXoZKuYg2gTX8S9MCWczM7fRkiX3Ogunncy9n2xYYseUC6IPoHNXboRaDKNVqInP09Fl7tCtLDB-bc-tj_PN1Me1VwW47YvvYrtMrOT-IJ/s320/IMG_20150921_134415904.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4. Add two wiggly eyes to the first pom pom. Use tweezers to pick up an eye. Put a tiny dab of glue on the back side and place in on the front of the first pom pom. Do the same to a second eye. You do not have to use tweezers but it really helps to prevent burning fingers.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This makes a fun caterpillar to put in boy and girl shoeboxes of the bottom two ages. </div>

What little boy doesn't like marbles? Well, these days, our boys in the US may like video games more but I remember when I was little, one of my brother's favorite things was to play with marbles. I think that marbles is a great item to put in your shoe boxes for the middle and older boys. If you're going to put some marbles in your box, why not make a pouch to put them in? Most marbles come in one of those net or mesh bags that really isn't any good to hold things after it's been opened. You could put them in a zip lock, but I don't think that will last a long time with daily play so I made some simple pouches from felt to be marble bags.<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbi9ZgH2F1qBOH2yrp_po0DMVerLU4vTxNZJBD38UwOEXUCihOBx9mJCalJV07UxTswXFFLSjGY-ekqT_XRWJOCND5JAp-SBarHvOZgxKg1HtamNZGLzsYaafjbYqVsZxnL54lMF7GoONj/s1600/IMG_20150910_155852934.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbi9ZgH2F1qBOH2yrp_po0DMVerLU4vTxNZJBD38UwOEXUCihOBx9mJCalJV07UxTswXFFLSjGY-ekqT_XRWJOCND5JAp-SBarHvOZgxKg1HtamNZGLzsYaafjbYqVsZxnL54lMF7GoONj/s320/IMG_20150910_155852934.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These are really very simple to make. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Materials needed:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
12 x 9 " sheets of felt or fabric</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
cord</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
sewing machine</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Marbles to fill them with</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1. Felt comes either by the yard or by the sheet. I find it easier to work with the sheets of felt although if you plan on making a lot, it might be cheaper to buy it by the yard.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On your 12 x 9" piece of felt, fold down one end about 1 1/2 to 2". Sew a straight line to secure the folded section and make a casing. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

2. If you are going to decorate the pouch, you will want to sew the decorations on before you sew the seams together. I used my Big Shot and some Sizzix dies I have had for years to cut out the stars. You can free hand cut designs or use appliques, if you want.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBScti9Xwbc9xGvMW-37wGti1Bz8ai2F9RuTqPvm5pqejBNyv7UOgWpI-LJ-ROhjPDWokngkN39ql6xKX1X3Kj8Io7yeYKUIdYBG3UFM0n-FdxhcoGQx7G9aeqqEWfCdxWWkulUXhMwapW/s1600/IMG_20150910_152250836.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBScti9Xwbc9xGvMW-37wGti1Bz8ai2F9RuTqPvm5pqejBNyv7UOgWpI-LJ-ROhjPDWokngkN39ql6xKX1X3Kj8Io7yeYKUIdYBG3UFM0n-FdxhcoGQx7G9aeqqEWfCdxWWkulUXhMwapW/s320/IMG_20150910_152250836.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
3. Next, fold your felt together so that the right sides are together. Sew a seam across the bottom and up the side to about 1" from the top. You will want to leave an opening to thread your cord through.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0Ud-tamUIWAMyx5B5WJqIXJOhOrl6KMxvC5L8Rk02bx2wdkyeZ-Oi5C15YboUhoEy7jBXC10JaosXUeoO0XoAQSm6bIH9hN9vVAYbhhz25Jsh_odFVXPdhyphenhyphenfkScik2hVReccvpfJ8dBb9/s1600/IMG_20150910_152356902.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0Ud-tamUIWAMyx5B5WJqIXJOhOrl6KMxvC5L8Rk02bx2wdkyeZ-Oi5C15YboUhoEy7jBXC10JaosXUeoO0XoAQSm6bIH9hN9vVAYbhhz25Jsh_odFVXPdhyphenhyphenfkScik2hVReccvpfJ8dBb9/s320/IMG_20150910_152356902.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3WCqxHHnd3noXrKzD-JsELFz3ywZC4OLUAiSZCR3kDoIBRxslVdcmahZ3xV69TORTACN9kNZ_ClZIIN2ZdwDNXA1q47d-eAprg9zIWAFDFBW-4svjDxXh8hkrbDPQC1nJd0YZtD_0lJGd/s1600/IMG_20150910_152545319.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3WCqxHHnd3noXrKzD-JsELFz3ywZC4OLUAiSZCR3kDoIBRxslVdcmahZ3xV69TORTACN9kNZ_ClZIIN2ZdwDNXA1q47d-eAprg9zIWAFDFBW-4svjDxXh8hkrbDPQC1nJd0YZtD_0lJGd/s320/IMG_20150910_152545319.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
4. Turn this to the outside. Cut a piece of cord twice the width of the pouch and about 4' extra. Thread it through to the end.<br />
5. Fill the pouch with marbles,<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwzm__16OFI6jtai4Z2cy4zDsu1q-vZtpI7G51TmHp0rNvlzTs6Snu0ulpVqJCFpsIga6IxbOZjku7Y3trkoNmEN_Tlzf1L86u-2PKHxhyKHmVThGoGQgD1hD3hdgEy0FFRMHhUeEexUiv/s1600/IMG_20150910_151509608.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwzm__16OFI6jtai4Z2cy4zDsu1q-vZtpI7G51TmHp0rNvlzTs6Snu0ulpVqJCFpsIga6IxbOZjku7Y3trkoNmEN_Tlzf1L86u-2PKHxhyKHmVThGoGQgD1hD3hdgEy0FFRMHhUeEexUiv/s320/IMG_20150910_151509608.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEid379uozFyiMbGSVBg4wYERERcvYyNnS5SyN-6r26YzotLc4ULadlsLZkH7RHNO4YjJRrR4XUisaNA-R91zO8YlYpfLkunX-F-_wIrb6RMiiH1fLfQ3cuXTMG9s73bZ1fqMWUyK834-8JP/s1600/IMG_20150910_151517788.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEid379uozFyiMbGSVBg4wYERERcvYyNnS5SyN-6r26YzotLc4ULadlsLZkH7RHNO4YjJRrR4XUisaNA-R91zO8YlYpfLkunX-F-_wIrb6RMiiH1fLfQ3cuXTMG9s73bZ1fqMWUyK834-8JP/s320/IMG_20150910_151517788.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
6. If you don't wish to do the casing or your felt is not a full sheet, you can wrap the cord around the top and tie. I think the casing is better because the cord won't get lost as easily but it's up to you how you want to do it.<br />
Have fun and pack more shoe boxes. Every shoe box is an opportunity for a child to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ.<br />

It's been a while since I've put silk flowers on my cards. When I came across these in my closet, I thought it would be fun to use some on a card again.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Materials needed:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Flower Shop stamp set (SU #130942)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Gingham Garden patterned paper 4 1/4 x 5 1/2"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Primrose Petals ink</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Wild Wasabi ink</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
5 Petal punch</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Framelits labels dies</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Brads</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sponge Dauber</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Stampin' Dimensionals</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Birthday stamp</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There are lots of places where you can get silk flowers for your cards and other projects. My favorite way to get these is to buy a large bunch of flowers when I can find them for 50% off, usually at Hobby Lobby. When I get them home, I tear them to pieces. I pull all the petals away from the plastic stems. If they have a leaf that I like, I pull some of them off too. I take out any left over plastic bits and throw away the plastic stems. I then put the flowers and leaves in large zip lock style plastic bags. There are other places that you can buy flowers. Often you can find them in packages or bottles at your local craft store. They have some that are beautiful. It just depends on what your needs are for these.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1. Stamp several flower images and cut them out with scissors or with the 5 petal punch. Lay them aside.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2. Stamp your greeting on white card stock. Choose the framelits die that fits over your greeting nicely and cut it out with your die cut machine. Mine is a Big Shot.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. Using a sponge dauber and Wild Wasibi ink, gently brush the edges of the label die cut. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4. Place a small silk petal on top of a larger petal to make your flower. Insert a brad in the hole that is in the center of the silk petals or flowers. Punch a hole in the top left and the bottom right corners of your patterned paper. You might want to lay the flowers down on the paper first to see exactly where you will need your hole punched. Insert the brad through the flowers and the hole. Bend over on the back side. Adhere this to your card base.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
5. Place 3 to 5 stamped petals on the card to see a pleasing arrangement. Glue them down.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
6. Place Stampin' Dimensionals on the back of the greeting on the die cut. Adhere this over the center of the card and over some of the stamped flowers. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That's all there is to it. Have fun!</div>

This is a very simple project for items to go in your shoe boxes. It's ribbons for girls hair.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSPIIvCPHqy-wu4mq2iI_A5KbHTvQQrKT_NXHVDfWSuv9DfLPyVdrY0HPb0g_3OOM7PDYBp35WdPBguADuBeMcqX_50KIDd4Q8D9EaPwwEhZTu0yHOHq5YQcjnSxJzuuVWibkXCmlNuDWP/s1600/ribbons.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="313" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSPIIvCPHqy-wu4mq2iI_A5KbHTvQQrKT_NXHVDfWSuv9DfLPyVdrY0HPb0g_3OOM7PDYBp35WdPBguADuBeMcqX_50KIDd4Q8D9EaPwwEhZTu0yHOHq5YQcjnSxJzuuVWibkXCmlNuDWP/s320/ribbons.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I buy ribbon on spools at Wal Mart or other stores when I find them on sale. You can get ribbon spools at my local Wal Mart for 98 cents. Some of them are 3/16" x 6 yd. Others are 3/8" x 3 yd. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6CJjQpe-I_oi4DKwtOXw2tFojQHYMapaw0jAH4yaF8WlUaGQe4l8ja_JmkhO88MvByNaPc9g4fiCJizC8HgPkzsnGmZj5nCnvmMJ1DRO0mTAsyB9NBrA1vnlikHUHYPNIvbXFnhzw4y-o/s1600/ribbon1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6CJjQpe-I_oi4DKwtOXw2tFojQHYMapaw0jAH4yaF8WlUaGQe4l8ja_JmkhO88MvByNaPc9g4fiCJizC8HgPkzsnGmZj5nCnvmMJ1DRO0mTAsyB9NBrA1vnlikHUHYPNIvbXFnhzw4y-o/s320/ribbon1.jpg" width="230" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I measure 3 feet of ribbon and cut. I then wrap it around my hand and clip it with a hair barrette or a bobby pin. These are great for girls of all ages. In some countries the girls are required to have their hair short so they can just tie it around their forehead. In Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, all school age girls are required to have their heads shaved or in braids. I think that any little girl would want something to make her feel pretty.</div>

I can't believe it's September already! The summer has gone so far...the year is going so fast!<br />
Here's a greeting that can be used for most any event you have coming up this time of year, birthdays, get well, hello and more. Just change the greeting on the outside to fit your need.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtcCSOoDOzlkvpxo5y727vma_P8EijfECGBpn9Ao9XJlkuwm5QhtUoUeKYchruS9VVEPgmQsfL_rvckKkvLpUTfCZ_kDuoMFuBS3vWHQXtk8bx_EtTtCpidJpgSsdLHbLlclCTf6FHYey7/s1600/fall.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="247" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtcCSOoDOzlkvpxo5y727vma_P8EijfECGBpn9Ao9XJlkuwm5QhtUoUeKYchruS9VVEPgmQsfL_rvckKkvLpUTfCZ_kDuoMFuBS3vWHQXtk8bx_EtTtCpidJpgSsdLHbLlclCTf6FHYey7/s320/fall.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Materials Needed:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Serene Silhouettes stamp set (SU #127324)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Tangerine Tango card stock 2 1/2 x 3 3/4"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Pumpkin Pie card stock 4 1/4 x 5 1/2"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Lost Lagoon card stock 4 x 5 1/4"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
White card stock</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Always Artichoke ink</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Word Window punch</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Modern Label punch</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sequin strip</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Brown button</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Tan floss</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Stampin' Dimensionals</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Glue dots</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1. Stamp your tree from the Serene Silhouettes stamp set using Always Artichoke ink on white card stock. Cut loosely around the tree image. Set aside.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2. I usually place adhesive directly on to my ribbon but with these sequins, I found that it was easier to place the adhesive onto the Lost Lagoon card stock first. Then I placed the sequins on the adhesive and wrapped around to the back. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. Layer the 3 colors of card stock and adhere. I did the Pumpkin pie, then the Lost lagoon and finally the Tangerine Tango. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4. Place Stampin' Dimensionals on the back of the cut out tree. Adhere that to the center of the Tangerine Tango piece. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
5. Stamp your greeting on to white card stock and punch out with the Word Window punch. Punch out a Modern Label from some Tangerine Tango card stock. Layer the greeting on top of the label. Add dimensionals to the back and press down over the sequin strip.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
6. Thread the floss through the holes in the button and tie. Add glue dots to the back of the button. Press on to the bottom right of the Lost Lagoon card stock. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
7. Finish out your card by adding it to a card base and stamp or write your greeting on the inside.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Have fun with the fall colors.</div>

We have some beautiful little girls at church with birthdays coming up. I wanted to personalize a card for each of them. That was easy to do in the coloring of the stamped image girl. It was easy to color their hair the color of the girls' hair.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVDl8eP6oZTH_BbkesOomgcahKFmYBMqjYKgmP6JUfQA4cb4iAPOVy2HS6v08thPDQ95Y_8waYC3omfEN5yWxVL134P-FxkOIxx4Dh5lXxQaXcKYpjNFnGcHEnZ4ut9tq_DsD0f0NuR9Fi/s1600/for+you.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="251" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVDl8eP6oZTH_BbkesOomgcahKFmYBMqjYKgmP6JUfQA4cb4iAPOVy2HS6v08thPDQ95Y_8waYC3omfEN5yWxVL134P-FxkOIxx4Dh5lXxQaXcKYpjNFnGcHEnZ4ut9tq_DsD0f0NuR9Fi/s320/for+you.png" width="320" /></a></div>
Alicia is beautiful little Hispanic girl so I made her card with black hair and brownish skin. Leza is a sweetheart with red hair so that's what her card has!<br />
<br />
Materials needed:<br />
Sweet Thing stamp by Penny Black<br />
Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set--Stampin' Up<br />
Melon Mambo card stock--SU<br />
Birds of a Feather patterned paper-SU<br />
Word Window punch<br />
Modern Label punch<br />
Pastels<br />
Q-tips/cotton swabs<br />
hair spray<br />
Coordinating patterned paper 2 1/2 x 3 1/2"<br />
Dahlia adornments--SU<br />
Brads<br />
Glue Dots<br />
Stampin' Dimensionals<br />
<br />
I love using pastel chalks. It's one of my favorite mediums! I use cotton swabs to apply them and then apply a quick coat of hair spray. The hair spray is not acid free so don't use it in items you want to archive. The hair spray will brighten the color of the chalks and keep it from smearing.<br />
<br />
Things are layered as you see in the picture. I popped the image with the Stampin' Dimensionals.<br />
Have fun with this card!</div>

I can remember when I was a little girl having sewing cards to play with. I loved them. Of course, that was long before all the technology age. These days you never see children with this types of activities. But then in the countries where our shoeboxes go, things are different. The children don't have access to the technology that our kids in the US have. Sewing cards can still be a great gift. It is a wonderful way for small children to develop their fine motor skills and might even help them in learning beginning sewing skills. IMO, the sewing cards will be great for our girl or boy boxes for the 2-4 age group.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjIiSYc7ejyCL13uepxcjvVvVbFV8rsN755Jcs-QNJU6AMB1R-ctx4FOlbbdwAFPcI2PMcg0vmmOStYHQQTu9hPhLBhT5oeIDrO4f9CqQwC2jaQyP5yo7m8rxGTk8XErku2sh26PkxgFH6/s1600/IMG_20150810_152920257.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjIiSYc7ejyCL13uepxcjvVvVbFV8rsN755Jcs-QNJU6AMB1R-ctx4FOlbbdwAFPcI2PMcg0vmmOStYHQQTu9hPhLBhT5oeIDrO4f9CqQwC2jaQyP5yo7m8rxGTk8XErku2sh26PkxgFH6/s320/IMG_20150810_152920257.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There are a lot of options for making sewing cards for you boxes. One way is to use foam sheets. You can buy rectangle sheets like these </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmvuD7max0oFJkCaqf6d4HAvmSAMyAeCGXOdjMWhVNybKUOr45wn7-ouujdTaoBW4qFtr9wob8Wk3j8gpT44HfaEACErGlHvLjPVgkCYyhlANzIGbhhDM-d9TWBcAiMNgp6NFgWU-ssFCC/s1600/IMG_20150810_140703962.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmvuD7max0oFJkCaqf6d4HAvmSAMyAeCGXOdjMWhVNybKUOr45wn7-ouujdTaoBW4qFtr9wob8Wk3j8gpT44HfaEACErGlHvLjPVgkCYyhlANzIGbhhDM-d9TWBcAiMNgp6NFgWU-ssFCC/s320/IMG_20150810_140703962.jpg" width="320" /></a> at any craft store or stores like Wal-Mart, etc.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You can draw or trace patterns on these and then cut them out. You can trace cookie cutters, get patterns out of color books or use <a href="http://scrap-a-doodlepatterns.blogspot.com/2015/08/whale-frog-for-sewing-cards.html" target="_blank">my patterns</a>. <a href="https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=6441058676351069471#editor/target=post;postID=5367129746416199651;onPublishedMenu=allposts;onClosedMenu=allposts;postNum=1;src=link" target="_blank">more patterns</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You can also find foam figures that can be used. I found rabbit and chick shapes on sale after Easter. I also found butterflies that I was able to buy at Michael's with a 40% coupon. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1/4" circle hole punch</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
yarn or shoe laces</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
tape or white glue</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhT0ZY9BsRhpZ6QNqHlolAgLL8qCr_rpnyThpjKUsz0F4erkrNVqFaRM9-8DdKHFn2CEnDtU5B2rzaX7_hCFsqZqzOA6jZbkgeRzF3uXZ2R2tbsPf8A5hSalK3tldfDhIXxiUp9XumCxXer/s1600/IMG_20150810_141216995.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhT0ZY9BsRhpZ6QNqHlolAgLL8qCr_rpnyThpjKUsz0F4erkrNVqFaRM9-8DdKHFn2CEnDtU5B2rzaX7_hCFsqZqzOA6jZbkgeRzF3uXZ2R2tbsPf8A5hSalK3tldfDhIXxiUp9XumCxXer/s320/IMG_20150810_141216995.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
1. After you have your shape or have cut out your shape, punch holes around the edge at least 1/4" from the outer edge. Holes should be punched about 1/2" apart but it doesn't have to be exact.<br />
2. Cut a length of yarn about 30". Tie a pony bead on one end and wrap the other end with tape. You can use masking tape or scotch tape. Another way to do the end is to dip it in white glue and let it dry to make a stiff end. When I started, I was using just the yarn but then I found 8 pair of shoe laces for $1 at Dollar Tree. Shoe laces actually work best but unless you can find them cheap they can get pretty expensive.<br />
3. Pack them 4 in a sandwich size zipper bag with 4 piece of yarn or shoe laces in each. We thread one of these so that the child will have an idea of what to do with them.<br />

This is a very simple item that you can put in shoe boxes. Your children can help you make these and be more involved in the packing. Packing shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child is one of the best ways that I know to teach your children about sharing and missions. </div>

I picked up a Martha Stewart Hand Lettering Kit not long ago at my local Michael's and I've been playing around with it. My friend, Milie Jones, does lots of hand lettering and it looks great but any time I've tried hand lettering, I didn't like the looks of it. There are so many times that I want a title or a greeting that I just don't have a stamp for... So with Martha's guidance, I've been practicing. Here is my first card that I've done hand lettering on. I don't think it's too bad but I hope with more practice, I'll improve.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgujZTinpIcPCRKtVC9lfRPuTdHJMa-tkemmimLJQmNxwPKZR4RgqzA5eA_-a085M09VkHf3J-IH41QZ8Umq7pubKaCHc1j_GhdpFIb4ASxJBhwUQ5-5XfACpLX1bXMXUtjZqW-jT1X5ieR/s1600/bird.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgujZTinpIcPCRKtVC9lfRPuTdHJMa-tkemmimLJQmNxwPKZR4RgqzA5eA_-a085M09VkHf3J-IH41QZ8Umq7pubKaCHc1j_GhdpFIb4ASxJBhwUQ5-5XfACpLX1bXMXUtjZqW-jT1X5ieR/s320/bird.jpg" width="254" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Materials needed:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Fine tip pen for lettering</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Pencil</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Flock Together patterned paper (SU, retired) 4 x 5 1/4 & 3 1/2 x 4 1/4" </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These two pieces were the front and back of one sheet</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Marina Mist card stock 4 1/4 x 5 1/2"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Feather Stencil by Jenni Bowlin</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Marina Mist ink</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
sponge</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
button</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Candy Dots</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
glue dots</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Stampin' Dimensionals</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1. After the paper is cut to size, I stenciled the feather on the patterned paper. I place the stencil how I wanted it and placed a small piece of scrap paper on each side of the feather I planned to stencil. You might want to use a bit of repositional tape to hold it in place. I dabbed the sponge on the Marina Mist ink pad.Then I dabbed it on to the stencil. I used side swipes on the edges to get a good look on the feather.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2. Next, I hand lettered the greeting I wanted. I draw lines to keep my letters straight with pencil first. Then I use pencil to do my hand lettering. If you don't want to get the Martha Stewart kit, I know that many card making magazines and web sites, have info about hand lettering. After I've got the letters in pencil, I go over them in ink. Always give the ink a bit of time to dry before you erase the pencil marks. If you don't, you could smear the ink and then you have a mess. I know. I've made plenty of messes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. Add the Candy Dot to the left of the lettering and a button to the top left. Use glue dots to adhere the button.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4. Adhere the striped patterned paper to the card stock. The place dimensionals on the back of the feather piece and place on top of the patterned paper. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The card can be used for many different things. Think of all the times someone has said "well. a little birdie told me." You can send a card for that! </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When the card stock is covered with paint, allow time to dry. The amount of time needed will depend on how thick you put on the paint.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. On the other piece of card stock, stamp the daisy image in Gumball Green ink.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
Stamp twice across the width of the card stock. Cut out the image along the top of it.<br />
4. After the paint is dry, stamp the daisy image on top of the blue painted card stock with Gumball Green ink. Stamp two images next to each other across the bottom. Stamp a third image in the center, higher than the other two.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

5. Add several pieces of dimensionals to the back of the cut out daisy piece. Be sure to put enough to support the card stock. Lay this carefully on top of the painted and stamped card stock, lining it up with the bottom.<br />
6. Stamp a greeting from Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set with Gumball Green on white card stock. Punch this out with the Word Window punch. Rub Gumball Green ink on around the edges of the punched greeting and adhere to the top right corner of the card. Place Candy Dots on the outside edges of the punched greeting. This will give it the look of brads without having to have a brad go completely through the card.<br />
7. Add 3 small pearls on to the flower image.<br />
8. Tie a small bow out of the Marina Mist ribbon and adhere to the top left corner with glue dots.<br />
<br />
Have fun using a different media other than just the stamped image. </div>

Just a quick tips today for items for Operation Chirstmas Child shoeboxes.<br />
<br />
Just let you brain go wild when you are looking in the clearance aisle for your stores. I recently found some tins with 2 decks of cards in each one for $2 each. The tins and cards were decorated for Doc McStuffins and Pet Patrol. My first thought for $1 for each deck. Then I got to thinking about what to do with the tins. They are a great size for pencil boxes.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVZSRW4JuT0yuxk5Isff2mAtYy-3p8xJ_icgEv-kyXhjv2g9HHfV4EO-81xub18jRMl29yyzPy-cZahLZwcAoBlIYber7jkygXF2y-QkYb58IoTpk2qwLRHVpdq1e2_ytZNhnRNXAnGRsT/s1600/IMG_20150712_160147163.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVZSRW4JuT0yuxk5Isff2mAtYy-3p8xJ_icgEv-kyXhjv2g9HHfV4EO-81xub18jRMl29yyzPy-cZahLZwcAoBlIYber7jkygXF2y-QkYb58IoTpk2qwLRHVpdq1e2_ytZNhnRNXAnGRsT/s320/IMG_20150712_160147163.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzeAWzFoIuMRPyUZ5zAPymx9IhkXTKrdLt66TzE87yANtfI65h52fpOGHVPuWd38N8YLug6wsLP4rMFVE_HK5Qy5z8Fqp4g1uqWor_b-ZfCmmUiiwBWRyFG3x5ifqinKeTib_wMowHvxdU/s1600/IMG_20150712_160156774.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzeAWzFoIuMRPyUZ5zAPymx9IhkXTKrdLt66TzE87yANtfI65h52fpOGHVPuWd38N8YLug6wsLP4rMFVE_HK5Qy5z8Fqp4g1uqWor_b-ZfCmmUiiwBWRyFG3x5ifqinKeTib_wMowHvxdU/s320/IMG_20150712_160156774.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I used some of the chalk board paint left over from the chalkboards I showed you on Monday's post to paint the top of each box. I painted the bottom of each box green but any color will do. I had some green paint at the house. I had to do 2 coats on the top and bottom. After the dry, they are perfect to put pencils, erasers, chalk and other items in! So for $2, I got items for 3 shoeboxes which averaged out to about 66 cents for each item. This would also be good to put Legos in, a sewing kit, a fishing kit, or many more things in.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As you are shopping for things to go in shoeboxes, don't be afraid to repurpose things for them. A little paint or fabric can turn a throw away into a WOW for your boxes. Remember, don't put a throw away item that still looks like a throw away into the shoeboxes. Be sure to take some time to make it into something new and great.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I thought that small chalk boards would be good for shoeboxes so I decided that I would make some. Today, while I was out, I did find some already completed at Dollar Tree for $1 but these were too wide to lay flat in the shoebox. For easier packing, I feel that the chalk board needs to be able to lay flat. I figure that the ones I'm making cost about 17 cents each.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This can make a good project for a church youth group, a Vacation Bible School craft, a scout group or some other group. With a dozen or so people, these can be made pretty quickly.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Materials needed:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1 large piece of backing board or plywood, 3/8 - 1/4" thick</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
sandpaper</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
sanding block</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
chalk board paint</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
paint brushes, sponge or bristle</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
lytex or rubber gloves (optional)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I recommend that you use some type of gloves for this project or your hands may look like this.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHSSgKl9jMs5R5nAxn_4dinP5uLyfW6lJv4R9a6t3LoHBVBbI_V9D_oQmkOAmB4Bn470y0U6_021kibrFeTIjmUlrMw0t1UyLbYR1tylVbjza7xXpk9fm7siHc5Be2LfuMHc_a0ZBsE2q7/s1600/IMG_20150713_142758976.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHSSgKl9jMs5R5nAxn_4dinP5uLyfW6lJv4R9a6t3LoHBVBbI_V9D_oQmkOAmB4Bn470y0U6_021kibrFeTIjmUlrMw0t1UyLbYR1tylVbjza7xXpk9fm7siHc5Be2LfuMHc_a0ZBsE2q7/s320/IMG_20150713_142758976.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I used to be able to paint without making a mess but that time seems to have passed. You also might want to wear an apron or an old shirt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I made my chalk boards to be 4 x 6" so that they will fit flat into the shoebox without any trouble. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Many lumber yards will cut the boards for you but be sure to ask what they charge. My local Lowes store would cut them at 25 cents a cut. That could add up pretty fast. If you can find someone with a table saw or a radial saw, they can cut them for you. My son cut mine on a radial saw in about 30 minutes. For the 4 x 8' piece of board, he was able to cut 165 pieces. That's a lot of chalkboards! It helps to fill a lot of shoeboxes though and remember, every shoebox is a gospel opportunity. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you don't want that many, you should be able to buy a piece of board that is half that size.</div>
<br />
Sand the edges of the cut boards so that there are no splinters. You can use plain sandpaper or put it on a sanding block. IMO, it's easier to use a sanding block. You can buy sand paper already cut to size for sanding blocks or it's easy enough to cut it yourself from a sheet.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPGGVAkaG9-zKNXtrXAqtjgbsp5Q3A8VZTv3BpOB1YlBdwJFLewxDGyiWjtLMVQWPawNCkMjc3J7hUzmEAL9szBAveVeUruJKT9vpQcumqTIHc4akpn5Dc5OCnRl0dIhYOWb9o99zxtgrH/s1600/IMG_20150713_115022576.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPGGVAkaG9-zKNXtrXAqtjgbsp5Q3A8VZTv3BpOB1YlBdwJFLewxDGyiWjtLMVQWPawNCkMjc3J7hUzmEAL9szBAveVeUruJKT9vpQcumqTIHc4akpn5Dc5OCnRl0dIhYOWb9o99zxtgrH/s320/IMG_20150713_115022576.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
You will want to spread out newspaper or card board to cover your surface before you paint.<br />
Paint each board. I started out with a can Krylon spray paint but I was only able to do about 20 boards, one side, with it. When I got more paint, I got a quart can of Glidden chalkboard paint. This was more than enough to do all of the chalkboards. You can paint just one side or you can paint both sides. Painting the edges is up to you. Each side that you paint needs two coats of paint. I paint it horizontal the first coat and vertical for the second coat.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEQE4fd27jnnAMQGz-H4FAcGdzpvZ6HjsCzCvl-4wQhP91DnbrnBRkxadIcUN9i4sJK_yRcrNXGEpxlUhl64KYMg8nWmB_-ZMM6BVmKQtjO43Huwg99nOa1lCLxSXjQ5FjhlhmwTKb9ybl/s1600/IMG_20150714_150054499.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEQE4fd27jnnAMQGz-H4FAcGdzpvZ6HjsCzCvl-4wQhP91DnbrnBRkxadIcUN9i4sJK_yRcrNXGEpxlUhl64KYMg8nWmB_-ZMM6BVmKQtjO43Huwg99nOa1lCLxSXjQ5FjhlhmwTKb9ybl/s320/IMG_20150714_150054499.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I set the slab of boards outside in our Texas sun and they dried in about 20 minutes. Inside it will take a little longer to dry.<br />
<br />
You will need something for an eraser to go with the chalk boards. I took fabric scraps and cut pieces about 4 x 6" for this.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj21nBTcfawxzpJm9Bbju9AwEBdVVGuYA_NV2nPQi-m1mFDp3A4hUiOEjzwNtFly76sY4p8QP2w2CcXFuVmrJT7FykTtFk9SaX3HHsSGKxidxS3bHHCYl8PblxzrzUzmV_Yi91DBUiMbkVx/s1600/IMG_20150713_120226756.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj21nBTcfawxzpJm9Bbju9AwEBdVVGuYA_NV2nPQi-m1mFDp3A4hUiOEjzwNtFly76sY4p8QP2w2CcXFuVmrJT7FykTtFk9SaX3HHsSGKxidxS3bHHCYl8PblxzrzUzmV_Yi91DBUiMbkVx/s320/IMG_20150713_120226756.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Be sure you also include at least 2 or 3 pieces of chalk for the children to use. Because chalk can be very dusty, you might want to put it into a zip lock type of bag so the dust doesn't get all over the other items in the box.<br />
<br />
Cost breakdown:<br />
1 sheet of board $15<br />
1 qt of paint 10<br />
sand paper, misc <u> 3</u><br />
total $28<br />
Divided by 165 pieces = 0.16969 cents per chalk board<br />
<br />
Left over fabric scraps free--If you don't have any, ask your church members or mothers for some.<br />
Chalk cost varies. Look for it on sale. I found some side walk chalk, which works just as well, in the Dollar Spot at my local Target. That was 12 pieces of chalk for $1.<br />
<br />

Today, at church, we had a craft day where several of us came and put some simple crafts together to make some cool things to put in our shoe boxes. We've been working on felt "paper" dolls. washer necklaces, chalk boards, fleece scarves, spinner tops, clothespin airplanes, note pads, sewing cards, and other items. Today we had 12 people show up and we got a lot accomplished. We have things that any age person can work with and you don't have to be a crafter or seamstress to do it. We always have some items that are at the point where they just need assembling and we have no sew items. Several of the things were working on have been posted on this blog or will be in the coming days. Take a look at some of our pictures.<br />

If you are like me, and many paper crafters that I know, you have a box sitting next to your work table where you throw your scraps in to use in later projects. Well, if you are like me, that box is full and you haven't looked in it in a while. So today, I pulled some scraps out to make this manly birthday card.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_OBv-jUi-1fCf71aTt1g-m9ILGWz4u3YDN4SZ_kawmXjRLtrsOcTqjNtoQ5OrVn8n8MCSEBJgDo8Tl7aGHDAu9wBltUtxA_S9k5SeAAHWNzcY3RY70IT1xCHl6TrqPlj0H9A1OvCoXSB5/s1600/banners.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_OBv-jUi-1fCf71aTt1g-m9ILGWz4u3YDN4SZ_kawmXjRLtrsOcTqjNtoQ5OrVn8n8MCSEBJgDo8Tl7aGHDAu9wBltUtxA_S9k5SeAAHWNzcY3RY70IT1xCHl6TrqPlj0H9A1OvCoXSB5/s320/banners.jpg" width="249" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Materials needed:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Best of Birthdays stamp set from SU</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Be the Star stamp set from SU </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Really Rust ink</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Large oval punch</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Stampin' Dimensionals</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Left overs</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The top scrap is 1 1/4" wide. The right side scrap is 1" wide. The background card stock is 4 1/4 x 5 1/2". I made 3 of these cards and each one has a different background card stock.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The triangle banner pieces are made from balsa wood and were left over from a Paper Pumpkin craft kit. I stamped the stars on the triangles with Really Rust ink. I had one extra triangle so I adhered it to the inside of the card next to the greeting. You could even use left overs from the dimensionals if you use the side pieces. I use them all the time!</div>

Ok, so you packed shoe boxes last year and you enjoyed doing it. You plan on packing one again this year but your group or your church is asking you to do more. You would like to because you know that this is a great charity that helps a lot of people learn about Jesus. But all of that stuff adds up. How can you afford to do more shoe boxes?<br />
<br />
I pack 50 boxes every year and would like to do even more but I don't feel like I can afford the shipping for more boxes than that. After all, 50 boxes times $7 per box is $350. So when I buy more items than I need for my own shoe boxes, I donate the stuff to my church's packing party.<br />
<br />
When I was in Tanzania, I wanted to cry when I saw the kids who were outside and not allowed to come in to the distribution because we did not have enough shoeboxes for more children.<br />

<br />
<br />
Here are some tips for packing multiple shoe boxes. Some ideas may not work in your area but I'm sure you can come up with other ideas.<br />
<br />
1. <b><u>Don't wait until October or November to start buying things for you shoe boxes</u></b>. Think about it all year round. When you see something on sale, mittens in January for example, buy several of them then! I'm getting to be notorious at my local Wal-Mart. One time about a year ago, I found a shopping basket filled with children's flip-flops for 50 cents each. I wheeled the entire cart up to the register and bought them all. I know you may not be able to afford that but you don't have to stop with just one pair. The store has them at that price to get rid of them. They don't care who buys them! You never know when you will come across a deal.<br />
2. <b><u>Buy after holidays</u></b>. The day after Valentine's Day, many stores have Tootsie Pops, Charms Blow Pops, and Smarties left over and they are priced at 50% off. The day after Easter, you can find stuffed bunnies for 50% off. The day after Halloween, there is always candy at half price. Candy lasts for 3 years without any trouble so you can stock up ahead of time.<br />
3. <u><b>Buy school supplies in August</b></u>. In July and August stores in my area have school supplies at crazy low prices. Things like crayons for 25 cents for a 24 count box, spiral notebooks for 17 cents each and many more. I don't pay full price for any school supplies but I always include some in my shoe boxes.<br />
4. <u><b>Check out the clearance aisles</b></u>. Most stores have a clearance aisle some where in the store where they put things they want to get rid of at cheap prices. There is usually nothing wrong with these items. They may be out of date or not as popular as was expected. When I go into certain stores, I always check the clearance aisle. I don't always find things that I want but you might be surprised at how often I do.<br />
5. <u><b>Look for coupons</b></u>. Harbor Freight has coupons in our local paper almost every week. There are items like screwdriver sets, tape measures, and flashlights that you can get free with the coupon. Sometimes you have to make a purchase to get the free item and sometimes you don't. When I have to make a purchase, I usually buy a small hammer that they always have for $2.99. I use the 20% off coupon that is in the same ad as the free coupon and get the hammer for $2.50. These are great items to go in an older boy's box. There are many other places where you can get coupons for other items too.<br />
6. <u><b>Check sale ads.</b></u> Many times you can find good items at really good prices in the sale ads. Often you can also find a coupon that can be used in addition to the sale. Be sure to read the fine print to know the rules for that sale or store.<br />
7. <u><b>Beg</b></u>. Ok, well, maybe you won't want to beg but you can ask. Most of us have a dentist that we go to a couple of times a year and we usually give him plenty of our hard earned cash. If you will ask in September and explain what it's for, many dentists will give you toothbrushes and toothpaste for your shoe boxes. I've seen some dentists that will give as many as 100-150 toothbrushes and small tubes of toothpaste for this. You might need to give them a couple of weeks to get it together but they are usually willing.<br />
8. <b><u>Make things yourself</u></b>. You can check out Pintrest and other sites for how to make things and for ideas of things that will go in a shoe box. You would be surprised at how many different types of things that you can make yourself to go in shoeboxes. I know ladies who crochet animals. There are others who sew stuffed animals. There are men who enjoy wood working that make small, wooden cars and trucks for shoe boxes. I am not a seamstress but even I can make a simple skirt to go in a shoebox. Go <a href="http://scrap-a-doodlestamping.blogspot.com/2015/04/skirts-for-shoeboxes.html" target="_blank">here </a>to see my directions on how to make a skirt. You can buy pony beads when they are on sale and string them for necklaces for your boxes.<br />
Other things you can make cheaply.<br />
finger puppets<br />
tote bags<br />
clutch bags<br />
tic tac toe games<br />
felt "paper" dolls<br />
rag dolls<br />
hair bands/ties<br />
9. <b><u>Shop at dollar stores</u></b>. Dollar Tree has everything in the store for $1. Sometimes you need to check out the items to check the quality but they are usually as good as you can get at other stores. There are other dollar stores that don't have everything at $1 but still have some really good buys. One of my favorites is not a dollar store at all but the Dollar Spot at Target. I've found some really good items for shoe boxes for just a dollar at the Target Dollar Spot. I was even lucky enough to find 70% off on certain items (red dot) at my Target not long ago. I got an entire basket full of toys and other items for my boxes for just $75.<br />
10. <b><u>Check out on line sites and catalogs</u></b> such as Oriental Trading. Try to order over $45 worth when ordering and you can usually save the shipping. With Oriental Trading you have to buy most things in bulk, like 50 rubber finger puppets for $15 (don't quote me. I don't work for Oriental Trading). There are lots of cool things for kids that you can get there. If you can't buy enough at one time to get free shipping, ask a friend to order things also. Combine your order to one address and you can usually have enough to qualify for free shipping.<br />
<br />
Ok. Hope these ideas help to be able to pack more shoeboxes. Yes, I have been told that I am OCD about OCC. I agree 100%. I think about Operation Christmas Child all year round. You don't have to be as obsessive as I am about it but you can still pack several shoe boxes. Remember that every shoe box you pack is a gospel opportunity for a child to hear the good word of Jesus Christ.<br />
