Manly Scraps

If you are like me, and many paper crafters that I know, you have a box sitting next to your work table where you throw your scraps in to use in later projects. Well, if you are like me, that box is full and you haven't looked in it in a while. So today, I pulled some scraps out to make this manly birthday card.

Materials needed:

Best of Birthdays stamp set from SU

Be the Star stamp set from SU 

Really Rust ink

Large oval punch

Stampin' Dimensionals

   The top scrap is 1 1/4" wide. The right side scrap is 1" wide. The background card stock is 4 1/4 x 5 1/2". I made 3 of these cards and each one has a different background card stock.

    The triangle banner pieces are made from balsa wood and were left over from a Paper Pumpkin craft kit. I stamped the stars on the triangles with Really Rust ink. I had one extra triangle so I adhered it to the inside of the card next to the greeting. You could even use left overs from the dimensionals if you use the side pieces. I use them all the time!

A Card from Scraps

Every thing for this card came from my scrap box. Some of the items are quite old. Most of them are from Stampin' Up but I might have to look through several catalogs to find the pattern names. I think that from time to time we all need to make something that just uses scraps. We all have more than we will probably ever use, at least, I know that I do!

Materials needed:
Red card stock 4 1/4 x 5 1/2"
Striped patterned paper 4 x 5 1/4"
Other pieces of patterned paper that coordinate well.
Card stock stickers
Vellum
Gold embossing powder
Greeting stamp
Heat tool
Versa Mark ink pad

1. Cut various piece of patterned paper into these sizes: 3 x 3 1/2" for the back (right on top of the stripes), 3/4 x 3 3 3/4", 2 x 4" with a fish tail cut out on one end. 1 x 3" with a fish tail cut out on one end.
2. Stamp a greeting image on to a piece of vellum paper with Versa Mark ink. Sprinkle with gold embossing powder and heat until the powder has melted.  See Note.***
**** I've found that greeting stamps with small letters do not work well with this. They have a tendency to blend together when they melt and make it hard to read the words.

The greeting on the right says "Happy Birthday Wishes." It is very hard to tell what the words are other than the larger birthday word. The green one is using SU Wild Wasabi embossing powder.****

3. Place the cut out pieces of patterned paper, except the one that  is 1 x 3", on the striped paper as shown in the picture.
4. Cut out the greeting on vellum with a larger area left at the bottom. Carefully place adhesive on the bottom section of the greeting and place it on top of the other papers. Adhere the last "fishtail"  piece of patterned paper on top of the vellum paper covering up where the adhesive shows.
5. The flower, leaves and friend label are card stock stickers. Place the flower on the left side overlapping the edge. Trim the excess off of the edge. Place the stem and leaves as shown in the picture.
6. Adhere the card on to a card base.
I've left this tutorial a little vague because I know if you are using scraps, you may not have the same scraps that I have. All of the papers that I used are retired by now. Make good use of your left overs. You can make some beautiful cards that your friends will love.

Stripes and Grasses with Left Overs

For this card, I was using some scraps of materials that I've had  laying around for a while. I can't give you the exact pattern name or item # on most of these.

Materials needed:
Striped patterned paper 3 x 5 1/4" (this is paper that was in my scrap box)
Night of Navy card stock 4 1/4 x 5 1/2"
White card stock
Striped ribbon 1 1/4" wide (this is SU ribbon that's been retired a few years)
Just Believe stamp set (#120453)
Teeny  Tiny Wishes stamp set (#115370)
Filigree Brads (#112577, retired)
Old Olive ink

1. Stamp the images from the Just Believe stamp set with Old Olive ink on white card stock. Stamp the greeting in the center of the label stamp. Cut them out.
2. Adhere the yellow patterned paper to the Night of Navy card stock with 1/8" border on 3 sides.
3. Cut the wide ribbon to fit and adhere it over the card stock and patterned paper so that there is an 1/8"  border all the way around.
4. Adhere the stamped images as shown on the card.
5. Punch a hole in the bottom right side. Add a large brad to the card.
6. Adhere the completed card front to a card base and sign your creation.
It can be easy to go through your left overs and scraps to make cards. Sometimes you just have to put them together. I know that I need to use up more of my materials instead of always going out to buy more new!
