Operation Christmas Child

National Collection Week begins on Monday morning, Nov. 17. Be sure to pack your shoeboxes with school supplies, hygiene items, small toys, non-chocolate candies for boys and girls all over the world. Many of these children have never received any kind of gift before. They haven't received gifts from parents and family because in many instances, those who love them have been working hard just to provide food for their survival. Also, this is an opportunity for children to learn about Jesus Christ. With every shoebox goes a booklet in the language of the child telling how to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and have eternal life.

Let's take a look at how Uncle Si Robertson packs a shoebox.

Happy Veteran's Day

Happy Veteran's Day to all the brave men and women who have fought through the years to keep the United States of American a free nation, under God. A special thanks to my special family members who have served in the Army, Army-Air Force, Air Force, and Marines. My dad was in the Army-Air Force before the Air Force became what it is today. He was an airplane mechanic who helped keep the planes flying in WWII. My brother was in the Army Green Beret during Viet Nam. I have a grandson who was in the Air Force for 4 years and another grandson who is currently serving in the Marines. I have a son-in-love who is a chaplain in the US Army. There are other family members who have served proudly in the armed forces for our country. I am proud of all of them.

Thank you to all of our veterans, past, present and future!

November Birthday Card

Since November is the busiest time of the year for Operation Christmas Child, I don't know that I will have time to make or post any other cards this month. Since I have sent cards to the senior citizens at my church for years, I had to make some so they won't be disappointed. I made all the same design just using different papers. This card was made using all scraps and basic tools.
Materials needed:
Patterned paper 4 1/4 x 5 1/2"
Coordinating patterned paper 2 x 5 1/2"
White card stock
a variety of scraps to punch flowers with
Secret Garden dies from SU!
Vintage Rose Garden stamps by Jennifer Ellory
Tangerine Tango 1/4" ribbon from SU!
Scallop Border punch from SU!
Brad

1. Punch along one of the long edges of the 2 x 4 1/2" paper. Adhere it to the other patterned paper about 1/2" from the bottom edge.
2. Stamp the birthday greeting on white card stock that is cut to about 1 x 4 1/4." Adhere the greeting to the bottom right of the scalloped piece leaving a small border around the edge.
3. Make the flower by cutting 3 different sizes from the Secret Garden dies or from flower punches. Punch a hole in the center. Layer the flowers and insert the brad in the center. Adhere the flower to the top left side of the card.
4. Ahere about 6" of 1/4" ribbon across the bottom of the scalloped piece.
5. Adhere the card front on to a card base and add a message inside the card.

Super Busy

I do hope that you will forgive me for the next month or so. I don't know if I'll have any time to make cards, much less get them posted on here. I know that I do not have a huge following but I do appreciate those of you who take a look at my cards. I average 400-500 hits a month so I know that there are people looking. I hope you like what you see and get some ideas for it.

The past month has been very busy and the next month is going to be even busier. Some of you are aware that I am a volunteer for Operation Christmas Child. I have volunteered time to OCC for several years but this past February, I became the area coordinator for the Mid-Texas area. We cover 6 counties across the middle of Texas. It is mainly a rural area and we have about 300 miles from east to west. This is our busiest time of year. We are still working on getting some new groups involved in the program and we are getting things ready for national collection week the 3rd week in November. I have several places where I have committed to speak and/or have a display so that will keep me busy. As area coordinator, I seem to be the one who gets to answer all the questions that come up. Sometimes, I have to call or look on the internet to find answers.

In addition to all of my Operation Christmas Child responsibilities, my family has been keeping me very busy this month too and will continue to keep me busy for a while. My brother was in a very serious accident 2 weeks ago and so I have been spending a lot of time at the hospital. I have a cousin who recently passed away and my baby girl (44 years old, but still my baby) will be having surgery on Oct. 29. My husband has elected to have dental surgery next month and I'm having hand surgery. While all of these are not super serious, they have been keeping me very busy. Please pray for my family as we go through these things.

As I have time to make the occasional card, I will try to get it posted on here. Also, hopefully, in December, I will be able to get back to my normal routine and be able to post cards on a regular basis again. Until then, check back from time to time and please have patience with me. I still love card making and hope I can encourage you from time to time. I will be back.

Here are a few pictures from our Count Down Event for OCC that was held on Sept. 20

We have a tail gate theme and lots of door prizes.
