Mix It Up

I joined Annie's monthly club for card making & have gotten my first kit. I made some of the things as directed but then, I decided to use up some of the other things I have sitting around my craft room with the club kit. Here is one that I did.
Materials needed:
Flower pot die cut, papers & brads from Annie's Oct. club kit
Silk flowers from any store
Birthday greeting stamp
5 petal punch-SU!
Wild Wasabi card stock 4 1/4 x 5 1/2"
Tangerine Tango ink pad

The Annie's kit had the flower pot shaped card that folded over. I cut it in half and used it on double the cards. The flowers are a simple matter of layering paper and silk flowers and placing a brad through the middle. Some of these were punch outs from the kit and some were cut from left over paper in the kit and my SU punches.
A really simple card to make and a great way to use up some of your extras.

Fall Butterflies and Flowers

I found these butterflys at Dollar Tree when I was in there a few days ago looking for items for my Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. There were 2 butterflies on a card for a dollar. I used papers from my scrap box, adhesive, glue dots, and brads to put these together in just a few minutes.

Materials needed:
Burlap & feather butterflies
Mellow Moss and Lost Lagoon card stock, each 4 1/4 x 5 1/2"
Night of Navy card stock 3 1/2 x 3 1/2"
Old Olive card stock 2 x 2 1/2"
Patterned paper from Greenhouse Gala
Tangerine Tango card stock
Tangerine Tango ink
White card stock
Word Window punch
Modern Label punch
Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set
Brads
Glue dots

1. I cut the card stock and patterned paper to fit from the scraps that I had and adhered them to the background card stock.
2. I placed several glue dots to the body of the butterfly and a couple to one wing. These butterflies have a heavy body so I put 5 or 6 glue dots on each one to hold it in place.
3. Stamp the greetings on white card stock and punch out with the word window punch. Put out a modern label from Tangerine Tango card stock. Adhere together.
4. Adhere the greeting to the top right of the card and secure in place with brads. The brads on the blue background are brads that I've had for several years. The ones on the green background are from SU and I've had them a couple of years. These were the last ones I had so that's why I didn't use the same brads on each card.

*****I apoligize for not giving you details directions on the last few cards. I've had a combination of being busy getting things ready for the fall kick off of our area Operation Christmas Child, recovering from a medium level surgery(not life or death but still takes recovery time), problems with artiritis in my fingers, and just generally feeling rotten. I hope that you this is enough for right now to keep you coming back. If there is something that you see here that you don't understand how to do, leave a comment and I will try to explain things to you. I'm not trying to leave you high & dry, it's just been a difficult summer.

Washi tape stripes

I used Washi tape that I purchased at a local store to do the background.

Materials needed:
Vintage Blooms by Jennifer Ellory die cut
Afternoon Picnic patterned paper (#131390)
Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set (#115370)
Washi Tape in 3 colors
Blushing Bride card stock 4 1/4 x 5 1/2"
Coastal Cabana card stock
Candy Dots Brad Bases (#132293)
Candy Dots Brights (#130931)
Word Window punch
Modern Label punch

1. Tear strips of Washi tape and place on the Blushing Bride card stock. Start with the first piece about 1/8" from the top and alternate colors or patterns of tape leaving about 1/8" space between each piece.
2. Cut a piece of Afternoon picnic patterned paper to 2 x 3 1/4." Cut Coastal Cabana to 2 1/4 x 3 1/2." Adhere the patterned paper to the top of the card stock. Adhere this to the top left side.
3. Cut patterned paper to 2 3/4 x 3 1/2." Cut another piece of Blushing Bride card stock to 2 1/4 x 2 3/4." Adhere it in the center of the patterned paper.
4. Choose a die cut from the Vintage Blooms pack and adhere to the top of the blushing Bride card stock.
5. Stamp a greeting on white card stock with Primrose Petals ink. Punch it out with the Word Window punch. Punch out a piece of Coastal Cabana card stock with the Modern Label punch. Adhere the greeting on to the Modern Label punched card stock. Adhere it across the bottom section of the die cut out. Add brads to the sides.
6. Adhere the card front onto a card base and add your message inside.

You get a fun & simple card in minutes that will look like you hours on it.

Lovely Trees

This card is using the same technique with watercolor that I used here. Hope you don't mind that I'm doing the same thing with a different stamp set.

Materials needed:
Lovely As a Tree stamp set (#115026)
Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set (#115370)
Elegant Eggplant card stock 4 1/4 x 5 1/2"
Old Olive card stock 3 1/4 x 4 1/2"
Watercolor paper 3 1/4 x 4 1/4"
Polka Dot Parade scrap
Early Espresso ink
Candy Dot Brad Bases (#132293)
Candy Dots Subtles (#130933)
Aqua Painter (#103954)
Word Window punch (#119857)
Modern Label punch (#119849)
Midnight Muse ink or marker
Always Artichoke ink or marker

1. Watercolor the background on white watercolor paper or white card stock. I started with a larger paper than listed above but then cut it down to 3 1/4 x 4 1/4".
2. Choose the trees from the Lovey As a Tree stamp set. Ink the stamp with Early Espresso ink. Stamp the image directly onto the dry watercolored background.
3. Stamp a greeting from the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set in Early Espresso ink on white card stock. Punch it out with the Word Window punch.
4. Punch out a piece of Old Olive Polka Dot Parade with the Modern Label punch. Adhere the greeting on top of the Label punch. Place it in the center bottom of the"grassy" area on the watercolor paper.
5. Layer the watercolor paper on top of the Old Olive card stock and adhere that on top of the Elegant Eggplant card stock.
6. Punch holes at each end of the greeting label. Add Candy Dot Brad bases and a colored Candy Dot.
7. Adhere the card front to a card base and add your note or message to the inside.
Have fun doing the same technique in different ways!

Celebrate You

Here's a card to celebrate any of life's events. This card can be used for birthdays, anniversaries, promotions, graduations, and on and on. Just celebrate who you are and who God made you to be.

Please be aware that for the rest of November, I am going to be extremely busy! I will do my very best to get cards & ideas on here 3 days a week, like I've done for a long time now. Please, though, if I don't get them posted as often as normal, be patient with me. Come back and check when you can. By the time Thanksgiving is over, I should be back to a normal posting schedule. Until then, all I can say is that I'll try my best. Our Operation Christmas Child area coordinator passed away back in Sept of this year and I have taken over her duties with our local OCC. Whether or not, I'll do it after this year, is in God's hands. He will have to let me know what He wants of me. National Collection Week is Nov. 18-25 this year and I have much to do now and until then.  I love cardmaking and will get as much done and posted as I can.

Materials needed:
Rich Razzleberry card stock 4 1/4 x 5 1/2"
Daffodil Delight card stock 3 7/8 x 4 1/2"
Kraft card stock about 2 1/2 x 1"
Best of Birthdays stamp set (#132929)
Serene Silhouettes stamp set (#127324)
scrap brown patterned paper at least 1 x 4"
Brights Candy Dots (#130931)
Stampin' Dimensionals (#104430)
Rich Razzleberry ink
3/16" Corner punch (#119871)
Modern Label punch (#119849)

1. Round the corners of the Daffodil Delight card stock. Center on the Rich Razzleberry card stock and adhere.
2. Stamp the tree and birds stamp in Rich Razzleberry ink on the left side of the Daffodil Delight card stock.
3. Cut the brown patterned paper into 2 strips that measure 1/2" by 4" each. Adhere both of these to the right side of the Daffodil Delight card stock about 1/8" from the right edge and about 1/8" apart.
4. Stamp "celebrate" on the Kraft card stock and punch out with the Modern Label punch. Place Stampin' Dimensionals on the back and adhere it over the patterned paper strips.
5. Add 3 Rich Razzleberry Candy Dots to the left bottom side of the Daffodil Delight card stock. Place the card front on a card base and you are ready to send it with your special message.

I love, love, love the Candy Dots in all the colors. They are great to add to a brad base that SU! has available but they are also great to just put on your card without the brad. They give you the brad look without punching more holes in your paper!

Baby Best Wishes

This is for a soon to be born baby named Olivia Joy. I know she will be beautiful just like the rest of her family.

Materials needed:
Flirtatious Specialty patterned paper (#122360, retired) 2 x 3 1/4"
Crushed Curry card stock   4 1/4 x 5 1/2"
Whisper White card stock 2 x 3"
Animal Stories stamp set (SU retired)
Cross My Heart stamp set (#126582)
Strawberry Slush In Color ink
Regals Candy Dots (#130932)
Candy Dots Brad Bases (#132293)
Stripes Textured Impessions embossing folder (#123128)
Hung Up Cute Clips (#129389)
Brights Collection Designer Buttons (#119747)
Glue Dots (#103683)
Stampin' Trimmer (#126889)
Big Shot

1. Place your Crushed Curry card stock into the Stripes embossing folder. Run it through your Big Shot machine.
2. Stamp the giraffe in Strawberry Slush ink (if you want a card for a boy, Bermuda Bay would be a great color) on the Whisper White card stock. Carefully place the giraffe image in your trimmer. Cut vertically at 1" and horizontally at 1" and 2." This will give you 6 one inch squares. Arrange the giraffe image in the correct order so as not to be confused later. (At least, I would be!) Place a glue dot on the back of each piece. Line them up about 1/4" apart, using the embossed stripes to help keep them even. Press down.
3. Stamp your greeting on white card stock. Trim around the edges. Adhere it to the patterned paper.
4. Place a clip on the top left hand corner. Adhere the entire piece to the right hand side.
5. Add a Candy Dots brad to the top left corner and an Olive Green button to the bottom right side. Adding the greens helps to tone down all the warm colors.
6. Adhere this to a card base and place your greeting or note inside.
Be sure you add your name or initials to some place on the back. Remember, an artist always signs her work!

Triple Birthday Flowers

If you've been watching my blog for any amount of time, you know that I do lots of birthday cards! I send birthday cards to the senior citizens at my church and also cards to the members of my TOPS group. IMO, it's always fun to get something in the mail that shows someone thought of you. Well, here's another birthday card for a sunny August.

Materials needed:
Basic Gray cardstock 4 1/4 x 5 1/2"
Pacific Point cardstock 4 x 5 1/4"
Bermuda Bay cardstock 2 1/4 x 4"
Crisp Cantaloupe cardstock 2 1/4 x 3 1/2"
Patterns Pack II (retired #114325) or other patterned papers
3/8" Striped Organdy Ribbon Marina Mist (#129292)
Secret Garden Framelits Dies (#129372)
Pacific Point ink
On Your Birthday stamp set (retired #111664)
Modern Label punch (#119849)
Candy Dots Brights (#130931)
Stampin Dimensionals (#104430)

This is a super easy card to make.
1. Adhere your ribbon to the Crisp Cantalupe cardstock and wrap the ends around to the back of the cardstock.
2. Layer the cardstock pieces on the card with adhesive as shown in the picture.
3. Pop the flowers out of patterned paper with the Secret Garden Framelits dies and your Big Shot.
4. Place a Candy Dot in the center of each flower. Adhere the flowers on the cardstock with the flowers slightly overlapping. For the 3rd flower use Stampin Dimensionals to pop it up a bit and give your card some dimension.
5. Attach it to your base card and you are ready to send it to your birthday friends!

Twitterpated Fabric Flowers

More fun playing with my Twitterpated Designer Fabric (#125412)!

  1. The background paper is from the Twitterpated DSP (#125406). I just love how all the colors go together so well with my SU! products. I don't have to worry if they will match or not!

2. Using the Top Note Bigz Die (#113463) and my Big Shot, I punched my fabric with the die to add to the background. It adhered it with my regualar adhesive.

3. To make this cute art deco flowers, I cut circles using an Original Sizzix Circle die. I cut several circles of 2 different sizes and fabrics. Layer them together with each one off center a bit. I rubbed the top ones on my Primrose Petals In Color ink pad to give a bit more color. The brad is from the Summer Smooches designer fabric brads (#125589). I pulled a few threads on the circles to distress it just a bit.

4. The other flower is fabric cut with an Original Flower Power Sizzix die. I punched a Fancy Flower(#118073) punch through some designer paper from the Brights Collection (#117155) paper stack for my bottom petal. The other petals are fabric petals cut from the Twitterpated Designer Fabric.  This brad is from the In Color Printed Designer Brads (#122940).

I hope you like what I've done with adding the fabric element to my cards. Give it a try to yours for something a little different!

The ribbon tied around the left side is Marina Mist 1/4" grosgrain ribbon (#120929).

Cherry Blossom Card

I posted a quick tip one day last week about using stickers that can be found on sheets of postage stamps and other places. Here are some more details about the card that I posted that day.
Regal Rose cardstock 4 1/4 x 5 1/2"
Gumball Green cardstock 2 x 4 1/4"
Polka Dot Parade DSP (#126902) 1 3/4 x 4"
Whisper White cardstock 2 x 4 1/4"
Fabulous Florets stamp set (#123027)
Primrose Petals In Color ink pad
Tenny Tiny Wishes stamp set (#127802)
Gumball Green 3/8" stitched stain ribbon (#126848)
2 brads from 3/16" Subtles Brads collection (#119738)
Word Window punch (#119857)
Trio Flower punch (#109183 retired)
Dazzling Diamonds glitter (#102023)

For the stamped flowers, I used the "stamp off" techniques. It's very simple. I loaded my stamp up with the color and then stamped the image 3 different times on the cardstock without reinking. That gave me 3 shades of the same color on the cardstock. Then I inked and stamped 3 more times. After I cut the cardstock to size, I inked the edges with the  cardstock directly to the ink pad.

Hope you have a great time stamping!

A Mound of Petals

For today, we've got a mound of orange flowers sitting on an orange flower background.

  1. Use a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2" piece of Certainly Celery cardstock for your background.

2. On a piece of 4 1/4 x 5 1/2" Tangerine Tango cardstock, stamp repeated flowers all over the cardstock with Tangerine Tango ink. This tone on tone look gives you a nice solid garden look.

3. Cut around the flower edges.

4. With the Trio Flower punch (#109183) from the 2009 SU! catalog, punch about 36 flowers. Since this punch is no longer available, if you don't already have it, you could use the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch(#118309). This punch has 3 shapes on it, one of which is a bitty scallop circle. It is very close to the same size as the trio flower. It will probably give you a slightly different look, but I think that it would still work fine.

5. Punch 2 flowers with the 5 petal flower punch (119880). This punch is designed for flowers but I've always thought it made great leaves. This punch is retired also but SU! has a punch called Blossom Petals Builder(#121808). It has several shapes on it that would be good for leaves also.
6. Place the leaves on top of the Tangerine Tango images that you stamped. You will want them to be a bit to the right of center.

7. Place 2 Stampin' Dimensionals(#104430) on each leaf. They do not have to be center. With a little experimenting, I found that 2 works a lot better than just one for the dimension that you want for this project.

8. Using the end of an embroidery hook and a soft  mouse pad, push into the center of each petal. You want to give the petals some curve to make them somewhat concave in shape. There may be tools especially made for this purpose, but I've found my embroidery hook works just as well.

9. Doing the petals one at a time, place 2 or 3 petals on each of the dimensionals that you placed on the leaf. With the other petals, place a dot of liquid or school glue on the back of each petal, still working one at a time. Place the petal around the petals that you've already put on the dimensionals. You will want to overlap these and even place some on top of others until you have the look you want. I have some tweezers that I've had for years that I just love to use for working with small pieces.

10. Allow the petals about a 1/2 hour for the glue to dry before you continue.

11. Cut 2 pieces of 3/8" Gumball Green Satin Stitched Ribbon(#126848), one piece about 4 1/2" and the other piece about 6." Apply adhesive to the back of the ribbons and place them on the right and top of the card, overlapping at the corner.

12. Stamp a greeting from Teeny Tiny wishes stamp st(#115370) in Gumball Green ink onto white cardstock.

13. Punch it out with the Word Window punch(#119857). Ink the edges with Gumball Green ink.

14. Punch out a Modern Label punch(#119849) from Certainly Celery cardstock. Ink the edges wotj Gumball Green ink.

15. Adhere the greeting on top of the Modern Label punch.

16. Punch a hole at each end with your 3/16" circle punch.

17.Add a brad from the Everyday Enchantment Brad set (#126126) that was in the 2012 Sale-a-Bration catalog. If you don't have those, SU! has some fabulous new brads available this year in patterns. I just love, love, love patterned brads!

18. Attach this onto you Whisper White card base and you are ready to give it away!

More Paper Flowers

This is a fairly simple card to make, even though you are making the flowers by hand. These flowers don't have the dimension that our other flowers had but they are still cute on a cute.

  1. Using the Fancy Flower (#118073) punch, punch out 6 or 7 flowers from a bright patterned paper. I used Melon Mambo from the Brights Collection(#117155) Paper Stack and some Raspberry Tart scraps that I had left over from a few years ago. The 2 flowers on the left both have 2 punches while the one in the center has 3.

2. Using your handheld circle punch, punch a hole in the center of each flower.

3. Cut out 3 uneven circles from the Waffle Paper that was in the Spring 2012 Mini Catalog. You can use either a sponge dauber or just rub the circles onto the Melon Mambo classic ink. The waffle paper takes the ink easily. Punch a hole in the center of each of these circles.

4. Stack 2 or 3 flowers on top of each other and the waffle paper circle on top of that. Using a small brad, push it through all the layers & bend at the back. I didn't use any adhesive for these. Lay these aside for now.

5. Use a piece of 4 1/4 x 5 1/2" Melon Mambo patterned paper from the Brights Collection for your background piece.

6. Cut a piece of Marina Mist cardstock to 3 3/4 x 4 3/4" to layer on top of the patterned paper.
Using the leaf stems from the Fabulous Florets(#123027) set, stamp with Wild Wasabi classic ink directly onto the Marina Mist cardstock. Allow the stems to gradually get shorter, going to the left, by stamping off of the cardstock. Adhere this to the Melon Mambo patterned paper.

7. Cut a 1/4" x 4 1/4" strip of patterned paper. I used some from Summer Smooches. Adhere it across the bottom of the card front, across the Marina Mist & Melon Mambo.

8. Stamp the saying from the Fabulous Florets set and loosely cut around the edge. Adhere is on top of the strip.

9. Now you can attach the flowers to the card front. You can either put adhesive on the back of each flower or you can punch small holes in the card front for the brads to go through. I like to attach mine with the brads because then I know that they won't come off.

10. You can now place the card front on the card base and you are ready for your inside greeting. It might be fun to stamp one or two of the flowers from the stamp set on the inside in colors to match the card front.

Inchies Floral

This is a fun card that can be used for most any occasion or just to send a note to a friend.
1. I used a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2" piece of Daffodil Delight for my background paper.
2. Cut 6 squares with your scallop square punch(#119884)from scrap cardstock of different colors. I used real red, bashful blue, old olive, perfect plum, and brilliant blue.
3. Arrange them in two rows of 3 squares each. Choose felt flowers in coordinating colors. I used chocolate chip, bashful blue and pretty in pink flowers.
4. I have trouble punching a hole in the exact center so I punched a square. I folded it in half and in half again. Then I marked an X at the mid-point where the folds came together. I used my 1/16" handheld circle punch(#101227) to punch a hole on the X. I then placed that on top of each square and marked where I would punch my hole.

5. Using Daffodil Delight brads from the brights brad collection(#119740), I attached the felt flowers to the center of each scallop square.
6. I adhere the square in two rows of 3 each.
7. If you wish, you could add a greeting to the front of the card. The Teeny Tiny Wishes set (115370) has many great greetings that would be a perfect fit on the front of this card.

Paper Doily Card

I am just loving the new Paper Doily Sizzlits die (#125592) that came out in the occasions mini catalog! I guess I've just got a touch of that Victorian romanitism in me.

I used it to make the focal point on this card and for the top embellishment.
1. Using my Big Shot Die cutting machine (#113439), I cut the doily out of Daffodil delight cardstock. I also cut a doily out of garden green cardstock. (Actually, I was having so much fun, that I cut a bunch of doilies out of all different colors so I could have some to play with.) I used melon mambo cardstock for my base.
2. I had some white doilies that I had bought in the cake decorating section of my local store that I used to back my daffodil doily.
3. To make the embellishment, I cut a 5 petal flower (punch #119880) out of Old Olive (one of my favorite colors to use!). I then used the same punch to cut a flower out of the garden green doily that I did earlier. I applied adhesive to the back of the doily flower & placed it on top of the old olive one. When you cut different shapes out of the doilies, they really need a solid one for the background. Otherwise, there are too many cut outs that they don't really look good.
4. Next, I cut a strip of 1/2" melon mambo polka dot ribbon (this exact ribbon is retired but there is a great 1/2" scallop dots ribbon that will look great here {#122985}) Apply adhesive to the back of the ribbon and wrap around the bottom of the card with the ends to the back.
5. I stamped "friend to friend" from the Teeny Tiny Wishes set (#115370) on paper & then punched it out with Word Window (#119857) punch. I punched out of Old Olive cardstock with the Modern Label punch (#119849)for the background for the greeting.
6. Using one of those super patterned brads that I got free from the Sel-a-Brations Enchantment Ribbon & Brad Pack (127279), I attached the greeting at the center of the doilies. I am loving that SU! now has so many more cool brads! I hope that they keep these patterned brads after the Sel-a-Bration sale is over. I just love them!
